Per-member pricing plus AI on top
ClickUp is not billed per project or per usage: every active member of the workspace counts as a paid seat, admins included. And the AI? Billed extra, per paid seat. Here is what actually weighs on the invoice.
Per-member billing
You multiply the plan price by the number of members. On Business at $12, a team of 10 pays $120/month, or $1,440/year. Every seat counts, even an admin who only supervises. No per-project or per-usage pricing.
ClickUp Brain (AI) on top
The AI is included in no base plan, not even Business. ClickUp Brain adds on from ~$9/member/month yearly ($18 monthly), with a higher Everything AI tier at ~$28/member/month. On Business plus Brain, the per-member cost climbs to ~$21, a 75% jump.
AI is billed per seat, not per usage
Critical point: if you turn Brain on for your workspace, every paid member is billed, whether they touch the AI or not. For a team where only two people really use AI, you still pay for everyone.
Hidden costs to watch
Extra AI credits ($10 for 10,000 credits) can stack once included quotas run out. And in 2024-2025, ClickUp reclassified some internal guests as paid members, with invoice jumps reported from 100% to 580%. Check who counts as a seat.

You have a small team and want to replace several subscriptions with one tool. At $7/member/month with no seat minimum, plus a free plan that actually stands up, ClickUp is the cheapest at entry against Monday, Asana and Notion at comparable features.
Too expensive if…
You want advanced AI across a large team. Everything AI at ~$28/member/month, billed on every paid seat, blows up the bill (up to +233% on 25 members). If AI is your number-one need, compare with Asana, which includes it in a plan.
