How much does Shippo cost?
The real price of the shipping platform, plan by plan, per-label fees included.
Short answer: Shippo offers a free plan (30 labels/month, you only pay postage) and a Pro plan starting at $17/mo billed annually. But the subscription is only the visible part. Postage is billed separately on a pay-as-you-go basis, and a few per-label fees add up fast. Here we walk through every plan, every fee, and what you actually pay based on your volume.

Shippo, the key numbers
How much each Shippo plan costs
Here are Shippo's three plans. The subscription covers the platform: label creation, tracking, automations, support. Postage is billed separately, pay-as-you-go, and we get to that next. The Pro plan is volume-based: its price climbs in tiers depending on your monthly label count. Annual price shown, the lowest.

Intermediate tiers vary on the slider, verify on the official page. Postage is never included in the subscription (see below).
The subscription is not the real cost
The advertised price only covers the platform. Your real shipping budget is postage plus a few per-label fees. Here is what makes the bill climb.
Postage
The biggest line item, and it is billed separately from the subscription, pay-as-you-go. Shippo charges when your balance hits $100 or every 7 days, whichever comes first. The cost depends on the carrier, weight and destination, not on Shippo.
Per-label fees (overage)
Beyond your included quota, each label costs $0.08. On the free plan the quota is 30 labels/month; on Pro the slider runs up to 10,000 before overage kicks in.
Own carrier accounts
If you use YOUR own negotiated accounts (UPS, FedEx) instead of Shippo's rates, the free plan charges $0.05/label. That fee disappears on Pro, which is often what justifies going paid.
Add-ons (address, insurance)
Non-US address validation costs $0.06 to $0.09 per lookup depending on the plan. Shipping insurance is a paid option. Small amounts each, but they stack with volume.
- Low volume (under 30 shipments/month)? The free plan is enough.
- Using your own UPS/FedEx accounts? Move to Pro to skip the $0.05/label fee.
- Want branded tracking and packing slips? That is Pro-only.
- Shipping internationally? Budget non-US address validation on top.
- Postage is never in the subscription: budget it separately.
How we calculate the real cost
Shippo's advertised price does not tell you what you really pay, because postage is billed separately. To estimate a realistic monthly budget, we add the subscription, average postage, and any per-label fees. Here is the breakdown for a Pro profile shipping around 300 parcels/month.
- Pro subscriptionPlatform, 5 users, own accounts free$17
- Postage (300 parcels)~$5/parcel average, billed separately~$1,500
- Per-label feesUnder 10,000 labels, no overage$0
- Total per monthThe subscription barely registers~$1,517
Estimate: postage depends on your carriers, weights and destinations. Adjust to your real volume.
What you actually pay per month
The Shippo subscription is marginal: what matters is label volume and postage. Four typical profiles, postage excluded, assumptions noted.
Estimates in USD, annual. Postage not included.

Shippo's price versus the alternatives
Shippo's entry plan compared to other shipping platforms. Pirate Ship is free but limited to USPS and UPS; EasyPost is volume-based; ShipStation is subscription-based. Sort by price or by score.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | Pirate Ship | 100% free | Postage only | 4.5/5 | $0/mo | ✓ | Low-volume USPS | Visit → |

Entry prices checked June 2026. Pirate Ship is free (you only pay postage) but stays focused on USPS and UPS. EasyPost includes 3,000 free labels/month then charges $0.08/label. ShipStation runs from $14.99 to $349.99/mo depending on the edition. In every case, postage remains the dominant line item in the shipping budget.
So, is Shippo expensive?
Our take after testing it: the subscription is one of the cheapest on the market, free plan included. The real story is postage and per-label fees. Here is when it is worth it.
Good value if…
You ship volume across multiple carriers and want multi-carrier without paying much for the platform. At $0 to start and $17/mo on Pro, Shippo is one of the cheapest entries on the market, with own carrier accounts free from the Pro plan.
Too expensive if…
You ship very little and USPS only. In that case, Pirate Ship is 100% free and saves you even the $17/mo Pro fee. Shippo's per-label fees ($0.08) stay marginal, but they are pointless if a free alternative covers your need.
The verdict
Shippo is a shipping platform with an unbeatable entry price (a real free plan), as long as you think in total budget. Stay on the free plan while you are under 30 labels/month, move to Pro the moment you use your own accounts or want branding, and keep postage front of mind: that is the real cost.
- Pay annually: about 10% off the Pro plan.
- Start on the free plan, move to Pro when you pass 30 labels.
- Switch to Pro if you use your own accounts: skip the $0.05/label fee.
- Use the 30-day Pro trial to test branding and volume.
- Budget postage separately: it weighs more than the subscription.
Frequently asked questions about Shippo pricing
How much does Shippo cost per month?
Shippo offers a free plan (Starter) at $0/mo with 30 labels included, where you only pay postage. The Pro plan starts at $17/mo billed annually (volume slider up to roughly $199/mo for 10,000 labels). The Premier plan is custom-priced for unlimited volume and teams of 15 or more. Note: the subscription only covers the platform. Postage is billed separately on a pay-as-you-go basis, and it is what weighs most in your real shipping budget. How much does Shippo cost per year?
The Pro plan runs about $205/year billed annually for the first volume band (up to 200 labels/month), roughly a 10% saving versus monthly. For higher volumes, the price climbs in tiers on the slider up to around $199/mo, or about $2,388/year for the 5,001 to 10,000 label band. The Starter plan stays free year-round. On top of this budget, always add annual postage, which depends on your parcel volume, carriers and destinations.Does Shippo have a free plan?
Yes. Shippo's Starter plan is free permanently, not just a trial. It includes 30 labels per month, one user, discounted USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL rates, unlimited store connections, automations, return labels and email support. Beyond 30 labels, each extra label costs $0.08. That is plenty for low volume. On top of the free plan, Shippo offers a 30-day trial of the Pro plan so you can test premium features like branding and phone support. Is postage included in Shippo's price?
No. Postage is always billed separately from the subscription, on every plan. Shippo works pay-as-you-go: it charges your label costs when your balance reaches $100 or every 7 days, whichever comes first. The amount depends on the carrier, parcel weight and destination, not on Shippo. That is why the subscription (free or $17/mo) is only a small part of your real shipping budget: postage almost always weighs far more. What hidden fees does Shippo have?
Three fees stack on top of the subscription. First, per-label fees: $0.08 per label beyond your included quota (30 on Starter, 10,000 on Pro). Second, on the free plan only, a $0.05 per-label fee if you use your own negotiated carrier accounts instead of Shippo's rates. Third, non-US address validation costs $0.06 to $0.09 per lookup depending on the plan, and shipping insurance is a paid option. None of these is huge per unit, but they add up with volume. Is Shippo cheaper than ShipStation or Pirate Ship?
It depends on your profile. Pirate Ship is 100% free (you only pay postage), so cheaper than Shippo if you ship mostly USPS and UPS. ShipStation starts at $14.99/mo and climbs to $349.99/mo depending on the edition, often pricier than Shippo's $17/mo Pro plan. Shippo stands out with a real free plan and free own carrier accounts from Pro. In every case postage stays the dominant line item, so compare each platform's discounted carrier rates too.How much does the Shippo Pro plan cost?
The Pro plan starts at $17/mo billed annually (about $205/year) for the first volume band, meaning 1 to 200 labels per month. It is volume-based pricing: the price climbs in tiers on a slider as your monthly volume grows, up to around $199/mo for the 5,001 to 10,000 label band. Beyond 10,000, each label costs $0.08. The Pro plan unlocks free own carrier accounts, up to five users, branded tracking and packing slips, AI-estimated delivery dates, and chat and phone support. Is there a discount for paying Shippo annually?
Yes. Annual billing of the Pro plan saves about 10% versus monthly: the first band drops from roughly $19/mo to $17/mo, or about $205 paid once for the year. That is the main way to cut the subscription cost. However, there is no reliable recurring official promo code, so be wary of third-party coupon pages. And remember this discount only applies to the subscription, not to postage, which is billed at real cost whatever your payment mode. How much does Shippo cost for high shipping volume?
For a high-volume shipper, the Pro plan runs up to around $199/mo for the 5,001 to 10,000 labels per month band billed annually. Beyond 10,000 labels, each extra label is charged $0.08, or you move to the Premier plan, custom-priced, which unlocks unlimited labels, 15 or more users, a dedicated account manager and the cheapest non-US address validation ($0.06). At these volumes, postage runs into several thousand dollars a month, so negotiate your carrier rates: that is where the real savings sit, not on the subscription. Can you cancel Shippo easily?
Yes, the Pro subscription cancels from your account, with no long commitment on monthly billing; on annual you stay covered until the end of the paid period. Since the free Starter plan costs nothing, many users simply downgrade to the free plan rather than close their account, to keep access to the platform and history. Remember to settle any pending postage balance before leaving, and export your shipping data and negotiated rates if you plan to switch to another platform.
