How much does ManyChat cost?

The real price of the Instagram and Messenger automation tool, plan by plan, AI included.

Short answer: ManyChat starts at $14/mo on the Essential plan, with a free tier capped at 25 active contacts. That is the headline price, though. Because the bill scales with your contacts and AI is billed at an extra $29/mo, a Pro setup with AI lands closer to ~$58/mo. Below, we break down every plan, the AI add-on, and what you actually pay based on your profile.

What each ManyChat plan costs

Since the March 2, 2026 overhaul, ManyChat runs five tiers instead of two. The catch: billing is based on your number of active contacts, so the price climbs as your audience grows. Prices shown are annual, the lowest available; monthly costs more. The AI add-on is billed separately (more on that below).

Prices checked June 2026 on manychat.com/pricing and cross-checked against several sources. The Pro plan is billed by contact volume: sources differ between a fixed tier (~$29 at 2,500 contacts) and a scaled rate (from $15 at 500 contacts), so verify on the official page. The AI add-on and WhatsApp or SMS fees are not included (see below).

The headline-price trap

What makes the bill climb

The advertised price does not tell the whole story. Three levers push the ManyChat bill up, and fast. Here is what to watch before you commit.

Your active contacts

This is the heart of the model: on the Pro plan, the price rises with your number of active contacts. You start at $15/mo for 500 contacts, but at 2,500 contacts you are already around $29/mo, and the bill climbs toward ~$139/mo at high volumes. An active contact is anyone you have interacted with during the billing period.

The AI add-on ($29/mo)

The AI features, including the AI Step and GPT-powered replies, are not bundled into any plan. You pay an extra $29/mo on top of Pro or Business. So a Pro account with AI runs $44 to $58/mo at minimum, even though plenty of people expect to pay $15.

WhatsApp and SMS

If you automate on WhatsApp or SMS, per-conversation fees and carrier charges stack on top of the subscription. At volume, those can exceed the cost of the plan itself. Instagram and Messenger, on the other hand, stay inside the subscription.

Outgrowing your tier

Go over your plan's contact cap and you bump automatically to a pricier tier. Keep an eye on your growth: one viral Instagram moment can double your bill without warning.

  • Starting out with fewer than 25 contacts? The free plan is enough to test.
  • Want AI in your flows? Add $29/mo to your math.
  • Automating WhatsApp? Budget for per-conversation fees on top.
  • List growing fast? Plan for the tier jump before it catches you out.
  • Instagram and Messenger alone stay the cheapest option.
Our method

How we price the real cost

ManyChat's advertised price does not reflect what you actually pay, because the bill depends on your contacts and on AI. For the "Pro setup with AI" figure, we take the Pro plan at a mid-range contact volume, billed annually, and add the AI add-on. Here is the math.

Is ManyChat expensive?

ManyChat's price against the alternatives

ManyChat's entry plan stacked against the other chatbot tools on the market. ManyChat stays one of the cheapest to start with, but the AI add-on and per-contact billing quickly pull the real bill closer to the competition.

ManyChat stays the most affordable way to start on Instagram, but the AI add-on ($29) pulls its real cost close to Tidio. Botpress, not listed here, starts at $89/mo but offers a free pay-as-you-go tier.

The verdict

So, is ManyChat expensive?

Our take after using it: the headline price is unbeatable, but the real cost depends on your contacts and on AI. Here is when it is worth it, and when it stings.

Good value if…

You automate Instagram and Messenger with a moderate audience and no AI. At $14/mo on Essential, or even free under 25 contacts to test, ManyChat is one of the most accessible tools on the market to get started with messaging marketing.

Too expensive if…

You have a large audience and want AI everywhere. Per-contact billing plus the AI add-on ($29) triple the bill fast, and on WhatsApp the per-conversation fees pile on. In that case, a flat-rate tool can work out cheaper at high volume.

The verdict

ManyChat is an excellent entry point to automate Instagram and Messenger at a fair price, as long as you think in terms of contacts and AI. Stay on the core channels, watch your active contact count, and only switch on AI if it actually saves you time or wins you sales.

  • Pay yearly: roughly 18% off the subscription.
  • Start free under 25 contacts to validate the tool.
  • Only enable the AI add-on if your flows truly need it.
  • Stay on Instagram and Messenger to dodge WhatsApp fees.
  • Watch your active contact count so you do not jump a tier.
Pricing FAQ

Frequently asked questions about ManyChat pricing

  • How much does ManyChat cost per month?
ManyChat starts at $14/mo on the Essential plan with annual billing, which includes 250 active contacts. The Pro plan, the one most people pick, starts at $15/mo for 500 contacts and climbs with your volume, around $29/mo at 2,500 contacts. But those prices do not include AI: the add-on costs an extra $29/mo. So a Pro setup with AI actually runs closer to $58/mo. The smart move is to start on the core channels without AI, and only add the add-on once your flows really need it.
  • Does ManyChat have a free plan?
Yes, ManyChat still offers a permanent free plan, but it was sharply cut on March 2, 2026. It is now capped at 25 active contacts, down from 1,000. It covers Instagram and Messenger with basic automations and limited access to Growth Tools and keywords. That is enough to test the tool and run a very small account, but most active accounts move up to Essential or Pro as soon as the audience grows.
  • Why does ManyChat get more expensive over time?
Because ManyChat bills by your number of active contacts. On the Pro plan, your rate rises automatically as your list grows: you start at $15/mo for 500 contacts, then move to around $29/mo at 2,500 contacts, and the bill can reach $139/mo at high volumes. A viral post that brings in a wave of followers can push your bill up even though you never changed plans. Keep an eye on your active contact count to anticipate the tier jumps.
  • Is AI included in ManyChat's price?
No. ManyChat's AI features, including the AI Step and GPT-powered replies, are not bundled into any plan. You have to take an add-on at $29/mo on top of your Pro or Business subscription. In practice, a Pro plan at $29 with AI works out to roughly $58/mo. Plenty of users are caught off guard by this cost, because the marketing pushes AI hard while it is billed separately. If AI is not essential to your flows, you can skip it and stay on the base rate.
  • How much does a full ManyChat setup cost?
Budget around $58/mo on annual billing for a Pro setup with AI: the Pro plan at a mid-range volume (~$29) plus the AI add-on ($29). That is nearly four times the advertised headline price, because ManyChat bills AI separately and the subscription per contact. For a small business on Business with AI, the total climbs to around $98/mo, and for a high-volume agency on Advanced, around $168/mo. If you do not need AI and your audience is moderate, you can stay at $14 or $15/mo.
  • Is ManyChat more expensive than Chatfuel or Tidio?
It depends on the model. ManyChat is the cheapest to start with, from $14/mo, and even offers a free plan. Chatfuel starts around $24/mo and bills per conversation. Tidio begins at $29/mo on its Starter plan, with Lyro AI as a $39/mo add-on. Once you add ManyChat's AI add-on ($29), its real cost moves close to Tidio. ManyChat stays the most economical choice for automating Instagram and Messenger without AI, but loses that edge at high volume with AI switched on.
  • Is there a discount for paying ManyChat annually?
Yes. Annual billing saves roughly 18% versus monthly on the paid plans, including Essential and Pro. That is the main reliable way to pay less for ManyChat. There is no recurring official promo code, though: be wary of third-party coupon pages promising miracle discounts. The best lever stays the annual commitment, plus not switching on the AI add-on until your flows genuinely need it.
  • Are WhatsApp and SMS included in ManyChat's price?
No, not entirely. The ManyChat subscription covers automation, but WhatsApp and SMS bring extra fees outside the plan: per-conversation fees on WhatsApp and carrier charges on SMS. At volume, those fees can exceed the cost of the plan itself. Instagram and Messenger, on the other hand, stay inside the subscription. If you want a predictable bill, concentrate your automations on Instagram and Messenger and only add WhatsApp for high-value cases.
  • How much does ManyChat cost for an agency?
For a high-volume agency, budget around $168/mo on annual billing: the Advanced plan ($139) for about 25,000 contacts, plus the AI add-on ($29), before any WhatsApp or SMS fees depending on the channels you run. Beyond those volumes, ManyChat offers an Elite plan by custom quote, with a dedicated Customer Success Manager and bespoke options, aimed at agencies and large brands handling hundreds of thousands of contacts. Ask the sales team directly for a quote at that scale, since the price is not public.
  • Can you cancel ManyChat easily?
Yes, you can cancel the subscription from your account, with no long lock-in on the monthly plans. The thing to watch is per-contact billing: if your list has grown, check which tier you are on before paying an annual renewal, so you do not lock in twelve months at a high rate. Also remember to export your contacts and flows before closing your account, and to switch off the AI add-on if you had enabled it, so you do not keep paying for it.
